Mr. Alias 2 →
Mr. Alias 2 is a weird little synth that uses non-bandlimited oscillators which can be transposed near to and beyond the Nyquist frequency, causing most of their spectra to be aliased back into audible non-harmonic frequencies. The sound can then be further processed by a number of crude “effects.”

sturob is right iTM MidiLab is cool beans. The idea of using the iPhone and iPodTouch (actually having both might turn out to be fun) as a controller for a bigger piece of desktop software works really well because it gives you the touch interface to complement keyboard and mouse.
Kore 2 is yummy. But they give you this coupon on a sound pack and you go listen but the idea of choosing just 1 does not sit very comfortably and then, well, you start to wonder if you might as well have taken up smoking crack.

The answer is “knobs” but the tricky part is the implementation.
Crazy?
Bought a copy of Kore 2 software edition today. Elysium has reached the point where it’s starting to be fun to create compositions so it’s probably about time to get save & load working properly.

I’m getting pretty close to buying the Kore 2 software synthesizer from Native Instruments. Today they dropped the price and created a software-only package that comes to £169.
I’ve been using their free Kore Player as the output engine for Elysium and it sounds great but you can only play one instrument at a time which is pretty limiting.
I’m beginning to get into this...
Where do the MIDI hackers hang out?
Well it’s not in freenode.org’s #midi channel, this much I know. I’ve been hanging out there nearly a week and, so far, only one other guy has dropped by. Like me he just randomly dialed up the channel to see if there was anything going on.
So where do people who like writing MIDI based software to make music hang out?
Made some progress fixing bugs and improving the tools so that configuration and playback work much more smoothly. Who knows, soon this thing may start to look like a real app!
